A Safe Passage
supporting Women Survivors of Abusethrough the childbearing year

Practitioner Training

The purpose of A Safe Passage Advanced Practitioner Training is to help caregivers gain the understanding, knowledge and skills they need to support women survivors of abuse through their pregnancy, labour & childbirth and early postpartum.

A Safe Passage training is offered as a distance education mentorship program to meet the geographical and time-related barriers many professionals face in trying to access our specialized workshops. The distance education program offers many unique benefits such as one-on-one mentorship and course pacing.

These are the goals of the Distance Education Mentorship Program:

What is the benefit of completing the distance education mentorship program?

A Safe Passage Advanced Practitioner Training is designed to help professionals acquire advanced skills in supporting Women Survivors of Abuse through the childbearing year. The distance education mentorship program is a training option that allows professionals from around the world to acquire these advanced skills outside of taking an in-person workshop. The distance education program allows for additional in-depth study, the ability to pace your learning, and individual sessions with your mentor that are not available in the weekend workshop format.

Will I still need to attend or host a workshop?

No. Once you have completed the distance education program you are eligible for certification.

How long will I have to complete the distance education mentorship program?

Typically students chose a 4, 6 or 12 month stream. However we recognize that each person has different learning needs and goals so the program can be adjusted accordingly to meet your specific situation. Each module varies in the time it takes to complete.

Can I use the distance education mentorship program for continuing education credits (CEU's)?

In most cases yes, you can submit your certificate of completion to your organization for CEU's. We suggest you contact your specific organization for information on how to apply this course towards CEU's.

Who will be the mentor that I will be working with?

At the present time, mentoring is provided by Jodi Hinds and Amanda Saunders. Both mentors have extensive experience working with women survivors of abuse in the childbearing year and training health and social service professionals. Which mentor you are paired with will depend on the availability of each mentor at the time you register.
